Asymptomatic Question

In April of this year while on spring break I had sex with a girl.  I did not know her and to my regret did not use a condom. We had sex for about an hour and also had unprotected oral.   This was the only time I had sex under circumstances like this.   For the next month I was a wreck. I checked myself non stop and never noticed anything other than the occasional itch.  Never any redness, sores, bumps, blisters, tingle or pain.   At the moment I am in college and am very short on money.  At around  7-8 weeks I paid for a herpes test i believe it was a herpe select igg was neg for hsv2 and equivocal for hsv1 if i remember it was just barely equivocol. My doctor told me to relax and that equivocol is negative. I let this all go until recently when I started to think about it.

My first question is this,  Is it possible to have genital herpes and NEVER have any type of outbreak?  I read 90 percent are asymptomatic.  I also read information on the internet that says very few people are truly asymptomatic and most may have a very mild first outbreak and not pay attention then become asymptomatic.

Further I have read that having a previous HSV1 infection can lead to a very mild or asymptomatic HSV2 initial infection. Is this also correct?

I was tested years ago for everything under the sun when I became very sick and my lymph nodes swelled all over my body and was negative for HSV1 and HSV2.   I have not had sex since that test until spring break.

My last question is this  had I not had any exposure to HSV1 or HSV2 and this girl infected me would I have had a noticable outbreak after infection like I said early for the first month and pretty much every day after I have been checking myself.    Or is it possible that In almost 4 months I am truly asymptomatic.

I want to thank everyone in advance for any help you experts can provide.  At the moment I am in school and really have no funds to get another test. My college does not have a clinic to go to so i cannot get a free test.   I am looking for your expert opinions on if I am infected and asymptomatic or your opinions on asymptomatic herpes.

Grace, I have one last inquiry. I have been reading the low false positive posts.  What is the medical communities opinion on testing for hsv with no outbreaks or symptoms after 2 to 30 days post exposure? It seems like most people that test low positive with no obvious symptoms are truly negative.   I ask this because with no obvious symptoms or outbreaks 7 weeks after sex I tested equivocol for hsv1 with no outbreaks, which caused a great deal of stress thinking at any moment I would be suffering a genital hsv1 outbreak?

Thank you grace, I returned back to campus today and feel alittle less anxious.  I have read stories online about peoples initial outbreak and the pain involved and realize if I had been infected my first outbreak would be very hard to miss.

save your money. no real reason for more testing.

Grace, I went back to my doctor on Friday and asked him for another igg test to bring peace of mind. He flat out refused to give me one.  I told him I wanted to know if I was asymptomatic and he told me I am not and to get over this.  He said the test at 8 weeks was overkill and with no symptoms he made a mistake by giving me it.

He said with an igg test now I have a chance for a false positive which would only add to my anxiety.  Is he correct in the way he is treating this ?

Thank you mam, the doctor asked me numerous questions about symptoms such as flu like symptoms, sores, blisters and bumps. I had none  of the symptoms. He told me he prolly should not have tested me but wanted to convince me I was negative.   He told me to forget the equivocol hsv1 result and to learn from my mistake.  For some reason I became worried last week.

equivocal is always negative just when someone tests in that range the provider should be asking questions to make sure additional testing isn't needed.

if you had contracted hsv1 genitally, odds ar e you would've had a very classic ob that you couldn't help but notice.

Thank you,  during my test at 7-8 weeks after the  encounter  I was neg for hsv2 and equivocol for hsv1. Is that still negative when no symptoms are present?

it was a little early but since you were completely negative, odds are it's accurate and really no reason for more testing.

To clarify I tested for everything around 7 or 8 weeks after the sex with this girl. It was one of those 8 panel tests.

My previous test was a few years earlier when I was in highschool

Is that enough time? I have also read in the absence of symptoms doctors don't even recomend testing for hsv.

you have tested negative for both hsv1 and hsv2. You waited  enough time for your testing. really no reason to be thinking herpes at all.

did you also cover the other std testing bases too?
