But now i've decided to post again because i have a question about the test that was run this time around...... its called the "HSV Igg Inhibition test" last 2 times i had a herpes select test run with very low postives (see previous post with actual lab results). My question is: is this new inhibition test as definitive as a w.b.? how do i interpret the results? and should i get retested again?? i have never heard of this particular test until now but my dr office claims it to be the best definitive test they could order ( i requested a Western blot and they said it was for HIV
testing not hsv....that confused me it seems like they had never heard of it) Honestly all i want at this point is an answer its been to long i've been having to deal with the i might have it i might not situation!
The nurse read the results to me today from this new test and they read.... Igg 4.3 , Igg 4.33 and then said there was a back up lab with it run to make sure there are no false positives which stated positive....... so now i'm left with the i surely have it.... but want to make sure i should not pursue the WB once and for all...... all my labs have been under the 5.0 range never above which makes me wonder why my levels are always so low when i get tested i always thought that people who have it usually test really high ...... is it ever possible to be exposed to this virus and never actually contract the virus has anyone ever thought about that? that we just carry around the anti bodies but not the actual virus??? or am i speaking without understand how everything works? and lastly every time i've been tested i had just received the hpv vaccination could that some how have made my body produce a positive on an hsv test (stupid question to ask but i wanna make sure )
The inhibition assay is kind of a mini WB. It's been focus's solution to confirming low positives. It's pretty decent at detecting false positives.
If you got the inhibition assay then your clinic uses quest labs I"m guessing. The herpes WB is test # 34534 thru them if you decide you really need it done but this last igg is 4.3 and your inhibition assay is + ( though it was my understanding that it reported with a % ).
Paying to ask Terri Warren here on medhelp would be your best bet - she works with the inhibition assay a lot but at this point I'd get your partner retested.
My partner decided not to stay with me we have been apart for 7months now apparently it was to much for him to deal with :(... but he still remains 100% negative and has been getting tested monthly since i first told him (he freaked out has a phobia
about std's) That really hurt me i've been dealing with this all on my own. To think he's freaked out and i'm the one with it! i donno how or why i have it in the first place :( i was always careful with any partners in my past and 100% faithful. Unfortunately its to late now to figure out who it was and i've come to terms with it but i will always be the type to go the extra mile for a definitive answer on something that affects my life so drastically .......but to answer the other question.... up until i got a positive last aug. i was under the assumption that all hsv testing were the same only thing i knew at the time about hsv testing was that you had to ask for it seeing as they dont typically run it with a general STD check. But after last aug. i did as much research as i possibly could and found out the differences. although i've had many complications with the Dr.s trying to give me the run around. Saying that they ran the best test, which turned out not to be true and i've requested a WB multiple times but no dr seems to know what it is and or they say they ran it but it was a herpes select test....i got lucky with my new dr and had what they said was the best test and thats the igg inhibition .... i've had a total of 3 test..... 2 were Herpes select (with the old dr).... and then the recent one that i was inquiring about the Inhibition (with the new dr) I was really just trying to figure out what to do from here. All three tests have been low and this last one of 4.3 still seems like a VERY low result in my opinion. It makes me wonder...... im sure the WB is my best bet to finally be done and over with, but if this Inhibition test came up positive aren't i just betting a dead horse trying to look for a false positive?
