Blister under lash line of my 2 month old baby-- HSV-2?

Blister under lash line of my 2 month old baby-- HSV-2?

Hi,
I am very scared-- Both my boyfriend and I have had genital hsv-2 for many years. We have a 2 month old son, whom I delivered vaginally (I was on valacyclovir for the last weeks prior to delivery, and did not have an outbreak during or delivery). I know that I did not transmit herpes during birth.

Today, I noticed one small yellow/clearish blister just under his lash line in one eye. His eye area is not red or swollen, and he seems to have no systemic symptoms of a herpes outbreak. Really, the one thing that has me very scared is this small blister, which reminds me of a herpes blister.

I had a recent outbreak, and am now very scared that I may have somehow transmitted this virus to my little baby-- I am freaking out about this, and I can't stand the thought of giving this disease to my baby. i would so appreciate some insight from an expert. Here are my questions:

1. I know that hsv-1 is the virus that most easily transmitted to babies, and that it can cause an infection of the eye and of the face. However, could hsv-2 also be spread to the eye?

2. How likely is it that my hsv-2 could have spread to my baby? If I touched a sore and forgot to wash my hands, how long would the virus survive on my hands and then infect my child if I touched his eye?

3. Does the blister I described sound like a primary hsv-2 outbreak? Again, there are no other symptoms-- no swelling, redness, fever, etc.

We generally practice good hygiene at home, but I may have touched a sore and, without washing my hands, later cleaned out my son's eye. I am now ridden with guilt and so distraught that I may have given this virus to my baby. Please help!

Thank you.

the best thing to do is take him to be seen monday.

odds are this isn't hsv2. If anything, it would be hsv1 from a family member or care giver who has kissed him.  it's very late for a hsv2 infection to be presenting from birth. you won't transmit your genital herpes to your child now - you don' t have to worry about that!
