Blood test to find out what type it is?

I went to the doctor about a week ago with what I thought was a staph infection from my boyfriend who has had recurrent staph. They did a swab test and I tested positive for herpes. I really want to know if it's type 1 or 2 but they said I'd have to get a blood test for that. My boyfriend is going to try and go to the doctor today and get tested. He was having a small outbreak (we thought it was staph) but I believe it is gone now. So if he gets a blood test, how long will the results take? I have a doctors appointment for Wednesday but I want to know asap. This whole situation is driving me crazy. He's only the second person I've ever had sex with (I know I didn't get it from my ex) and he's only slept with one other person. Talk about bad luck. This has hands down been the most stressful week of my life.

He's never had any symptoms of genital herpes until this week. We both had outbreaks. However, he has had cold sores and had one this week that may have been there the last time he went down on me. What is the likelihood of him having given it to me from his face and then me somehow giving it back to him genitally? Am I pulling at strings? At this point I figure it's probably type 2.

I read a statistic saying that genital herpes among college students is type 1 75% of the time? Is that true?

I'm hoping it's type one since it's so much more common. But does it really make a difference socially or not since it's genital either way?

call the clinic you were seen at and ask them why they don't type cultures. this is basic CDC recommendations and saves the patient a lot of time and money to type the culture. it's an extra $5 to type a culture compared to $100 for a blood test later on!!!  Ask them to call the lab they use, see if they still have your specimen and to ask  them to type it for you so you can quick answers.

your  bf's test results should be back within 48-72 hours.
