Both take Valtrex in discordant relationship?

I've been doing a bit of research on how Valtrex works and am wondering if it would offer any preventative benefits if the uninfected person in a discordant relationship took it as well as the carrier.  Granted, I am a complete layperson (ignoramus) in this field, but based on the way the drug works, it seems like it would offer some level of prevention if we both took it.

As I understand it, you take valtrex, your body breaks it down and pumps it into your healthy cells.  It does nothing until HSV decides come out of latency.  When HSV enters those cells and tries to replicate, the drug kicks in and denies the virus the opportunity by killing the cell.  My thought would be that if I had this stuff in my cells, even if I did contract the virus from my lady, I would be offered an additional degree of protection, refusing the virus to replicate, possibly denying it the ability to go into latency.

Furthermore, I also read that some evidence suggests that the sooner one starts taking the antivirals after the initial infection, the less severe the outbreaks that come as a result of contracting the virus.  If that is true, and I already had the drugs in my body, it seems like that would also assuage the symptoms and corresponding OBs even if I do contract it.

Would appreciate an expert's opinion on the matter. Certainly, my simplistic logic is fallible.

There are no trials that have been completed on this topic, so I can't really give you good answer to your question that is scientifically based.  Certainly, there has been thought given to this question among herpes specialists.

The amount of antiviral therapy that would probably be required to prevent latency from a new infection would likely need to be very large.  To take that large a dose daily would be both expensive and perhaps just not great.

I doubt that there is any harm in what you are proposing except expense, but I'm not at all sure that it will help you.

Remember, that is she is on antiviral therapy daily, you avoid sex during outbreaks, and you know already about her herpes which you do, the risk of you contracting herpes in a year is quite low indeed.  If you use condoms, it is even lower.
