Brazil Exposure ( maybe Herpes )

Brazil Exposure ( maybe Herpes )

I was traveling in Brazil in March of this year.  I had oral and vaginal sex with a sex worker.  Oral was without a condom.  Vaginal with a condom.  I performed oral on the worker.

I came back and had some symptoms that led me to believe that I had an STD.  I was tested with a swab and did blood tests for Clamidia, gonorrhea, Syphlis and all came back negative.

I waited exactly12 weeks and I was tested for HIV and Herpes.

HIV Negative.

The Herpes was IGM positive.
The Herpes for IGG was negative for HSV I & HSV II

However my wife as of yesterday developed a sore on the tip of her tounge.  It looks like Herpes.

My question is I waited 12 weeks for the HIV and Herpes...Is it possible that I have Herpes, either HSV1 or HSV 2 and tested negative after 12 weeks.  I see that some sites say to test between 12-16 weeks and one even said after 16 weeks.  Is it possible that at 12 weeks I can test negative?  Should I return and do another HIV and Herpes test?

Sincerly.

Almost all medical experts will say 12 weeks is good enough, especially given that you tested negative for BOTH HSV 1 and 2.

If you search around this forum for testing, you'll find that at 6 weeks, testing is about 60-80% accurate, and 3 months is considered conclusive at 95% accurate.

Is there a point in time that is 100% or 99%

No, some people never produce anti-bodies to a Herpes infection, but developed blisters and sores that were then swabbed and cultured which tested positive for herpes.

If you test negative via blood test at 3 months AND never had an outbreak of blisters or sores within two weeks of sexual contact, you don't have Herpes.
