Burning Sensation

Hi,

I'm a female who recently had protected sex with a male friend (although there was some genital contact that occured prior to the condom being used)

I'm quite a paranoid person, and I am worried that the vaginal burning feeling i've been experiencing over the last day and a half is prodromal herpes symptoms. My friend has no obvious lesions and doesn't believe he has any STD's. I have no visible redness or lesions and only very mild (and possibly all in my head) itching.

My question is, do lesions always follow burning feelings after a first infection? and thus should i get them soon if i am indeed infected?

the best thing to do is to be seen tomorrow and get a proper work up done. if there are internal herpes lesions they'll be able to see those on exam and do cultures.  You also should be tested for yeast and bacterial infections too.  

if you've never been tested for herpes before, also getting a baseline herpes igg blood test to see what your status is is a good idea too.

odds are your friend has never been tested for herpes either. if you can get him to get a type specific herpes igg blood test too that would be faster answers for you too.
