Butt irritation for a month, should I be concerned?

About a month ago someone who is diagnosed with herpes touched himself and then touched me, he was not having an outbreak at the time. Around the same time I started running outside in 100 degree temperatures and had a day where I did water activities in jean shorts and a thong. My butt started feeling irritated and within a week felt extremely raw. There are no open sores, simply irritated. It is made worse by sitting, bowel movements, and by certain types of clothing. It feels better some days and worse others. What is the most likely scenario?
