I have constant itching, raw burning pain, tingling, overall aches, headache, fatigue and just feeling low. I only get one painless bump during outbreaks. But, these other symptoms never seem to go away. Not to mention, a discharge that often appear with these other symptoms. I want a day or two of relief. Just want to be normal again....before H.
Please help. Any suggestions??? Just been diagnosed last month. I think this fairly a new infection. I got symptoms last year with no sores, so doctors ignored me and my symptoms for a whole year. My first sore appeared last month. A culture as well as blood test confirmed HSV1 and HSV2. Please help....I AM IN CONSTANT AGONY. I need to manage this little bug that is making a big impact on my life.
Contracting H can be very traumatic. Try H balm in addition to your supressive therapy. Also, I think its very important to try not to stress out. Stress can seriously trigger your symptoms. I know its hard, but you have to wrap your mind around it and relax. Seek support. I think the shame and depression that go along with H are the worst. I promise if you dont stress soon your symptoms with ease up. A friend of mine contracted H and the her first couple months she was in constant pain and discomfort. Gradually her symptoms faded as she got over the trauma of the whole situation. Relax, your going to be okay. Also, your NOT tainted forever.
What sort of work up have you been thru so far for all these symptoms?
Can you get a copy of your blood test results to post here for me to look at - ie hsv1 igg 4.3 and hsv2 igg 3.5 or whatever they are? was your lesion culture hsv1 or hsv2? How are you treating your herpes currently - what, how much and for how long?
Below are my test results from August of this year.
HSV1 - IGG HERPES SELECT AB
Negative: less than 0.90
Positive: Greater than 1.10
My result was greater than 5.0
HSV2 -IGG HERPES SELECT AB
Negative: less than 0.90
Positive: Greater than 1.10
My result was 1.56
CULTURE, HSV 2 FROM VAGINA- POSITIVE
HSV IGM AB w/RFX to Titer 1:20 titer
Initially taking Valtrex 500mg twice daily for ten days for outbreak, then 500mg once daily for suppressive therapy. I cant afford Valtrex so I switched to acyclovir today. I hope it works. I take a multi-vitamin, vitamin c, echinacea. I was taking l-lysine but stopped because I heard it doesnt work. I started eating more fruits and veggies.
Does the test numbers mean anything?
Any suggestions Grace, please advise. Thank u so much.
Since you had a low positive hsv2 igg and also a + hsv2 lesion culture, no reason for more testing. thank you for getting that info for me.
Have you been back to your doctor to get tested for yeast and bacterial vaginal infections lately too? Also I"m not sure of your age but have you tried topical estrogen in the genital area at all either?
Your all over body symptoms that started a full year before obvious lesions in the genital area though suggests that something other than herpes is also going on. Has your regular doctor done any other sort of work up like basic lab work and such?
I'm sorry to hear you're having such a tough time...I am having similar problems and I know how difficult it is...this virus is nasty...people who catch this and only have outbreaks every so often should consider themselves lucky...
Actually if you read grace's previous post, she stated that taintedforever most likely has something else going on as well. Aside from that, complications beyond regular old herpes OBs are not common at all - over 45 million folks have genital herpes, millions never having any symptoms. Folks on this board don't need propaganda or misinformation about herpes, or that the sky is falling when it comes to being diagnosed with herpes. I can safely say that of the 6 people I know from the boards who have herpes, NONE of them deal with issues beyond once in a while OBs that are just a nuisance and very much treatable.
verysaddude, both grace and I have told you that unless you have the confirmatory Western Blot will you actually know that you have herpes. Why on earth would you want to proclaim having herpes, when in fact there's a good chance you don't?
I understand what you are sayin petal, but I have also met people on this board who have had very similar issues to tainted and myself..who only started having this symptoms after contracting HSV 1 or 2. Why is it so hard to believe that this virus could affect some people in this manner..i'm not saying that its likely, but it is possible. This virus affects the nerves right? Only some type of issue with the nerves would cause these types of issues..I did have a 3rd test, which came back positive for HSV2 2 weeks ago. myself and about 7 others on this board that I have spoken to have are having these types of issues and only after contracting genital HSV 1 or 2. I don't want to give anyone on this board misinformation at all..I just want to share my experience which is the right thing to do....I'm no doctor, but I have been to every type of doctor you can imagine with every type of test and the only thing they can find wrong is HSV2! and before sleeping with this HSV2 postivie woman, I had NO issues whatsoever...so i'm living proof that HSV2 can cause these types of problems...isn't that logical thinking?
Hello~ I was glad to read that I'm not alone in the fatigue symptoms. i'm new to this site and have many questions, one of them was about the fatigue. I was thinking perhaps I was taking too much Valtrex or something but I backed off of it and was still so tired. I also have some vaginal discharge that is white but odorless and i've been tested for every Bacteria and yeast on the planet~ all clear. But everyone tells me that discharge isn't a symptom of HSV2. Funny that it starts when I have an OB and clears up after?
I don't have anyone I can talk to around home about this, I'm looking forward to reading the posts and getting opinions and advice & suggestions!
personally i think that your problems your feeling are legitiment but far worse than they actually are. i assume you are all depressed aboiut this and i dont blame you but the more you wrap your mind around it the more you feel. if this makes any sense. i was lucky to be negative but when i was freakin out about the possibility of have herpes i felt everything and always would freak out but the more and more that time went on and when i had 4 negative test i stopped feeling these things that were scaring me. so i guess im trying to say relax if you can and try to ignore the stress. its so hard but try and be strong about it.
Does the low positive HSV2 result mean anything? Yes, I've been tested for BV, yeast, other STDs cultures have been taken. All came back negative. The discharge is definitely a symptom I experience when Herpes is active down there. I dont get the typical OBs. The prodome symptoms of tingling, pain, itching are my major issues. I hardly get blisters or ulcers; just one pimple-like bump. I have gotten a complete blood work and everything is fine. I am healthy...only herpes.
I have read and done alot of research. Some people do experience flu-like symptoms when the virus is active or OB is occuring. So maybe I am amongst the few.
Our symptoms are not unheard of. You, me and many others are living proof that you can get other symptoms besides blisters and ulcers. Yes, herpes simplex does affect the nerves so it is not impossible to have backaches, sciatic leg pains, vaginal spasms....I believe it is very possible. I am not making any of these symptoms up. This is what I am experiencing. It does not have to be a perfect textbook definition. If it were, then I would have had to go to 6 different doctors in over a year to get the proper diagnosis. I did not have the classic blisters in my vaginal area so doctors dismissed me as having genital herpes and never did a blood test.
Whenever a foreign antigen, may it be bacteria, fungus or virus enters your body, your body tries its best to fight it. Hence, the flu-like symptoms I am currently experiencing. GOSHHHHH......I hate this virus and I wish my body gets a handle on it soon. I am in my 20s and cant imagine a good life living with these symptoms everyday for the rest of my life. The fatigue is unbelievable.
And no I did not have any of these symptoms until H.
Actually a clear discharge that occurs along with recurrences is related to herpes sometimes - especially if you are having ob's on your cervix. If you've had this discharge tested multiple times and nothing shows up ( best thing to have done is a gram stain, not just a culture - even better if your own doc has a microscope in the office and isn't afraid to use it!!!! ) and it's only occuring during your herpes ob's then yes, it is related to your herpes. Not sure what sort of work up you've had for this.
so it doesn't get overly complicated - any further questions about this just add to your other post about pain relief which I'm going to answer here in a bit for ya :)
You need to continue following up on all of this. If you can get some of your itching and painful areas pcr swabbed for herpes , that will help you and your provider figure out if it's all herpes going on or something else going on too.
If within 2-3 weeks of suppressive therapy with acyclovir you aren't feeling 100% better, you know it's certainly much more than herpes going on for you and your provider to continue further work ups or for you to consult someone else for a further work up.
