I was diagnosed last summer with Genital HSV 1. I have read and was told that recurrence happens very infrequently. I believe that I have just had another episode even though it was nothing like my primary
outbreak. Just one bump that that was itchy then turned into a scab. It didn't hurt but I am thinking that this is what it is. I guess my question is, is it that uncommon to have another outbreak within a year of your first?
About 1/2 of folks with hsv1 genitally n ever get another ob. Of those who do, the average is 1 additional ob the first year and then 1 every other year. You will still have recurrences now and then but in general they are far more milder than the initial one was.
I can vouch for that. My first genital HSV1 outbreak was a doozy, really awful. The second one, about 6 months later, was VERY mild and healed quickly upon taking Valtrex. I haven't had one since then and it's been a year.
