Can I Trust it?

I recently had irritation on the head of my penis shortly after sex.... I went to a dermatologist the next day, explained the situation and it happening before ... She looked at it, said it could be herpes..she took a biopsy of the affected area... The results came back as "dermatitis" ... She said it was tested specifically for HSV and came back negative.... I have been tested multiple times in past with blood tests... Positive for HSV 1, Negative for HSV 2...
My question: can I trust the negative biopsy and believe the diagnosis of dermatitis? Is a biopsy of affected tissue (within 48 hours) a legitimate test? If yes to the above, if the irritation returns am I safe to treat it as dermatitis ?

Thanks

Yes. I would trust what the dermatologist told you. If there was anything visible on the head that the Dr thought might be herpes and you had a biopsy done. I trust the results. The head is rarely infected. Your second post is right on the money.

By the way, I mention the blood test because I know HSV 1 is very common... I did the biopsy make sure that my original assumption, which is my HSV 1 infection is most likely an old oral infection, and not a genital one, is most likely correct..
