Can I get HSV-2 when I had HSV-1 when I was younger

Hi, when I was young I was diagnosed with HSV one but never had a symptom about 10 days ago I had unprotected oral sex with someone who had a cold sore it almost look like her lips were chapped. I'm pretty stressed out about this I don't know what to think I have not had any symptoms And no blisters Genital area. Can I be exposed to HSV 2 from a cold sore went i was diagnosed with HSV -1 along time ago???

You may be thinking that HSV1 means oral herpes and HSV2 is genital. Not true. HSV1 and HSV2 are the virus types. Either of them can infect the genital area. However, having had HSV1, you are immune (or at least highly resistant) to new HSV1 infecrtions anywhere on the body. And oral infections with HSV2 are rare, so even if you are correct in your "diagnosis" that your partner had oral herpes ("cold sore"), you are not at risk for genital herpes from this event.

I hope that helps. Happy new year!
