Can I get blood test done for herpes of the throat?

Is it possible to get a herpes blood test? I want to know if I have herpes of the throat but when I asked my doc to test me for it, she said that I might not get an accurate result. I could have a false neg or positive. Can I get a blood test done for it though?

You can get a blood test done at any time after 3 months of your last sexual encounter for accurate results.  You having symptoms can be swab cultured and type tested too.  Herpes of the throat is very very painful.  Though the results of blood testing will not tell you which site is infected.

testing + for hsv1 on a blood test would only tell you what you have, not where you have it. If you have active symptoms now, be seen for a proper work up and swabbing of active symptoms. just symptoms in the throat and no where else would be usual.

Grace thanks too for the feedback, I don't remember if I post this there as well..knowing me I probably did because I'm so paranoid and just wanted to hear peoples opinion on my questions. So I'm guessing that if my results come back negative, then I don't have any forms of herpes is that correct?

If they are negative it is a good bet you are negative.  You need to make sure at least 3 months have passed since your last sexual encounter and that the test was a type specific igg test.
