Can I transmit Herpes if there is no outbreak?

I have a few questions.  First, I have heard that transmission is possible even without an outbreak.  I am a 41 year old female and found that I had genital herpes when I was about 25 from an outbreak I had...tests were never performed.  My partner of 18 years has never had a symptom.  Would he get an outbreak on his genitals if he had it?  Also, sometimes I will go months without an outbreak and sometimes I get one about once a month.  The areas are my labia or anus.  I have only have anal sex once about 20 years ago...is this the reason I get outbreaks in that area?  Also, I have just started haveing sexual relations with another partner and am worried ne might contract it.  I take Valtrex when I get the outbreak and use a cream (starts with a Z).  Thanks so much for your help!

When you were originally infected with genital herpes, it infected the entire sacral nerve ganglia that supplies your lower body.  You can get ob's anywhere in the entire anogenital area - whether you've ever had anal sex or not.    

Have you read the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com? It's free and a terrific resource to learn more about herpes an dhow to reduce transmission to your partner.  Also your regular partner needs to get tested to know their own status - assume nothing.
