Can Yeast Infection Creams help Herpes?

by Stephm88, Mar 25, 2009 12:05AM
I recently posted about a rash I've had on my upper butt crease for about 3 weeks now. I'm waiting on test results for herpes right now, but I've had two different doctors opinions -- my school doctor who thinks its herpes, and my family physician who doesn't.

I'll clarify that my rashes are NOT painful, and only itch tremendously. Any pain comes from me breaking the skin from itching in my sleep, but I've cut my nails so that cannot happen anymore.

I've been using Lotrisone, which is a steroid cream mixed with betamethosone Dipropionate, perscribed by my doctor. I started using it Thursday, and it has reduced the redness, and stopped a bit of the itching.

I have a hunch that my problem could be yeast-related, so yesterday, I used an antifungal cream before i went to bed. When I woke up, the 3 red spots and main rash were no longer irritated or nearly as raised or red, and did not itch until I was in the shower, and washed myself with cool water, removing the cream.

I was just wondering how herpes could possibly interact with antifungal creams? And if the antifungal cream is working, is herpes still a possibility for my rash?

Since herpes is viral, using an anti-fungal shouldnt have any affect.  Neither will anti-biotics.  I've actually been told you're not supposed to put anything on a herpes infection, like topical pain relievers. I know you said you're waiting on a test, did you get an IGG blood test?

Its a culture test.

Three months ago my boyfriend and i did the blood test and came back negative for everything, including both herpes, which was our main concern.

I had something similar to this nine months ago, but it cleared up with Diflucan and Nystatin cream, which is why I'm thinking its a yeast infection.

Both incidents occurred after wearing a thong to work and getting sweaty.

Hey I'm not an expert on herpes but I'd like to let you know that the out breaks don't last 3 weeks... a typical outbreak last 7-10 days...

Do you play sports?

When I was in high school I played sports and I used to get rashes like that from sweating and than not taking  a shower right away after games.... I was stupid. The reason I asked is because you said your "school Nurse".

Wish the best hope your rash goes away
