Can a herpes culture test be false positive?

I have been with the same sexual parter for a year now. Recently in the past few months we were diagnosed with scabies. We both recieved medication a week ago and are healing from it now. But, the cream the prescribed to me, permethrin, did not react well with the head of my penis. When I woke up to wash the cream off the next morning I noticed the head of my penis was very dry and irritated (as well as my arms and legs being very very itchy). After going a whole day with this I realized that after rubbing against my boxers, the head of my penis had almost like cuts on them. It was stinging and burning so I went back to my doctor and they did a herpes culture test just to be sure. The head of my penis healed by the very next morning which calmed me down and everything almost seemed to be normal. Then this morning, over a week later, the doctor says I am positive for herpes. Is this true? Were the cuts they tested actually herpes? Thank you for whoever answers this.

Swab tests are very accurate when positive. The swab had the virus on it. There could be a lab mix up but that is very rare.
Was it hsv1 or hsv2? You can get an igg blood test and see how it turns out.
