I took the IgG type specific test and the results came back as 46.4. I ordered the test online and went to LabCorp for the draw. I understand this is a positive but I'm concerned as the number is so much greater than the one required for a positive diagnosis and wonder if there has been some kind of mistake. Does 46.4 sound like a positive or like a clerical error?
Sounds more like the non-type specific herpes test results.
Do you have a copy of your blood test results to look at? If not can you call the clinic today and ask them to please read you your results and write them down to post here. There should be 2 results - a hsv1 igg 4. 5 and hsv2 igg 4. 7 or whatever they are is what you should be receiving. If it's the old default lab corp testing it'll be the 46.4 combined hsv igg and then probably a hsv2 igg result too.
I suppose not and I feel foolish as this is information I needed to have. I have seen other post where the Western Blot Test is strongly suggested and will go forward with that. I very much appreciate your time. Thank you.
You need to call the clinic and ask what your hsv2 igg result was. typically the test you had done reports with first a non-type specific herpes test which is the 46.4 result you got. it's assumed from this test that you have hsv1 regardless since most adults do ( this is the lab companies way of thinking, not mine ) so then typically they do a hsv2 igg type specific, not a hsv1 type specific. Check if your hsv1 igg of 3.77 that you posted is really a hsv1 result or a hsv2 result. if it's really a hsv1 result then they most certainly also did a hsv2 test too so you'll need the results of that.
