Can herpes appear on the back of the tongue?

On the left side of the very back of my tongue, I noticed that it is a bit reddish and painful (but already less painful than yesterday). Should I worry?

Not herpes if that's what you're asking!

Probably not. Its a rare spot for a herpes lesion.

edit: they only hurt when I eat spicy food or when I scrape my tongue.
