Can herpes itch for 15 day straight

I've had a red, dry flakey, rash type thing on my penis and scrotum for 15 days now, and its been extremly itchy for the entire 15 days. Thinking it might be herpes I had a doctor take a culture of an area last friday, an area that i basically itch so much it turned into a sore (no blood or anything just raw looking), but i wont get results until a week from tomorrow.  I never had a blister, or a open lession, just irratation from the itchiness.  No sickness, or pain.  Its just itchy, red, dry and flakey.  I am beginning to think its some kind of fungial infection.

Questions:

1.  Would a herpes outbreak itch constantly for 15 days in a row?

2.  If it was herpes wouldn't a blister form, then scab and heal within this time frame?

3.  I've been on Vlatrex for 7 days now taking it twice a day, if it was herpes wouldn't the itch and redness slow down a bit?

PLEASE HELP!!!

I think you have Scabies!! Read about it online. They come out pretty much in the evening. It isn't herpes so relax on that... I would say Jock Itch is a possibility also but Scabies comes out in the evening to early morning to play and during the say you are fine with some redness. I am not an expert on this but I know I have worked with kids who use to get this and when the itchiness was only during certain times of the days, Scabies was usually the culprit....

Thanks for your information, I am still having a terrible itch down there, especially itchy in the morning.  What ever it is, it is really itchy, hopefully not herpes, but i'll be sure a week from today.

1.  Herpes outbreaks can itch, but this sounds more like a fungal infection or some other type of infection.  It is good you got the viral culture done though - it's the only way to be sure.
2.  If you had a herpes outbreak, almost certainly you would have a blister or sore, even though the appearance of herpes can vary greatly from person to person.
3.  Yes, the Valtrex would speed things up a bit - this is good evidence that your "rash" is not herpetic.

I am not a professional, but it sounds like you have a fungal infection or jock itch.  If the culture is negative (and I think it will be), make sure that you find out what is going on a get treated accordingly.  Hope this helps.
Good luck,
Em
