Can herpeselect igg be false negative?

I initially had a cut like sore in the corner of my mouth in October of 2016. It didn't tingle or feel strange, just hurt when I would open my mouth. A doctor that I worked with stated it looked like a cold sore, and I asked how I could get it even though I don't drink after people, only kiss my husband of 5 years, and there was no pain previously. So I went on thinking it was hsv 1. I had another two crack like areas on the opposite side of mouth one in November and another right before Christmas. No tingle, pain, burn, or itch prior to them appearing. I then decided to get tested with herpes select igg 1/2 ab test on February 2017. It was negative, and while relieved, I still felt anxiety about it. In the time between February and now I have had questionable redness around lips, again no pain or tingle, just strange spots that I may have always had, but now notice anything going on with my lips. I was taking fish oil 2000 mg in am and pm. Once i stoped this the cracks didn't show anymore. Just the bumps. I was tested again last week with the same test and still negative. Is it safe to assume I am negative? Could it be a false negative, and are the strange bumps normal to have? They are very small and clear. Redness varies. I do have braces too. So not sure if this could effect anything.

It really doesn't sound hsv1 related. That being said you will not contract hsv1 from sharing drinks or a bite of someones fork..etc. these are all wives takes and false info in old health books. Has your husband tested for hsv1?
Now unfortunately igg testing for hsv1 isn't that great. It can miss up to 30% of infections. That being said i wouldn't be overly concerned either way. The next time you get something that you believe is a cold sore go in right away and have it swabbed and tested for hsv. That's about all you can do. Igg tests look for antibodies you buold to fight the virus not the virus itself. Swab testing looks for the actual virus being at the surface.
Please don't stress over this

Hubbs has never had a cold sore, and tested negative when in military. He also only had one kiss prior to me so don't believe he would have contracted it otherwise. I never had anything until braces were put on and first possible "outbreak" would be October. I understand it can miss an infection but even after a year? They say on the quest website it is 93-100% sensitive. So i don't know what to trust really.

Thank you for answering my questions! I've read a lot on angular cheilitis as well. I've read it could cause blistering. Is this accurate?

Correct. Hsv doesn't live long outside the body.

If she had double dipped, still no risk?

No risk from the cream. I do know about the diagnosis and it completely fits your scenario.

I have one more question. So like you said earlier, hsv is not transfered by drinking or forks. I used a cream from my MIL who gets cold sores on my original sore. She uses qtips to apply and doesnt double dip. Likely if I have never had a cold sore in the past, and im testing negative, then its likely not HSV? maybe more angular chelitis? Do you know much about that diagnosis?

Thank you. I had the doctor look at a spot today in the corner of my mouth. She thinks it's rubbing from braces, but also didn't seem to look very well. Concerns were dismissed quickly. Recommended a b12 and b6 supplement and wax for my bracket... like I said before doesn't hurt really. Just when I smack my lips together I can tell it is there.

Most people contract hsv1 as a small child. Hsv1 testing is no where near that accurate. Hsv2 is close to that accurate. Therr have been studies on the accuracy and hsv1 is about 79-75% accurate. The western blot is far better for hsv1. Either way the odds are clearly in your favor.

I'm unsure about the accuracy of IGG, but the symptoms don't seem like HSV2 because of no burning, tingling, and no definitive face or pubic lesions.

Do you have any pimples, acne, dermatitis, or blotchy/pale skin?

(This is my problem, I'm pale and blotchy causing a lot of worrying)

Redness on your lips/face that you notice may simply be due to being over vigilant/observant about every small red blemish. (Although I'm a worrier so I can relate)

I am pale so any redness is noticeable. Some acne but never been around my mouth. I don't think it's hsv 2. If anything hsv 1. I know it's common but would think an igg almost a year later should show something.
