Okay, so since Dec. of 08. When I received oral, I've been very anxious and paranoidParanoid personality disorder Paranoid schizophrenia Schizophrenia - paranoid type. My cousin who is a doctor said herpes blood tests aren't very accurate. The only 100% positive way to know if you have genital herpes, is to wait for an outbreak. I've been waiting ever since and I need to put an end to this nonsense. My questions are:
How long would it take for herpes to show up on the genitals (in men)?
To answer your one question though, symptoms typically appear 2-20 days after transmission of the virus. I know for me it was about 4 days. Oh, and it took 5 long years for me to even become infected from my partner through very frequent oral sex (he has HSV-1 orally, and now I have it genitally).
At the end of the day, anybody can find out their herpes status by getting an IgG type specific blood test.
