Can someone tell if this is the Herpes STD or not?

I have been with my girlfriend now for 1 year and 4 months.  We have been having sex/unprotected sex for  1 year of that time.  She and I were both virgins (I could tell because she was bleeding a little so this thing if its and std is not from her).  The question is that recently I had sex with my girlfriend technically during her period but it was near the end of her period.  And for this occasion i was wearing a condom (the last time we had unprotected sex before that was 2 weeks before).  Well after this occasion that we did it while she had her period, I appeared with a little pimple 2 days later on the top of my penis and then 2 days after that the pimple got big and had this one with like dot in the middle. I went to the doctor later that night and then it seemed to be 2 dots in that one pimple.  They automatically told me it was herpes.  I trust my girlfriend when she says she hasn't cheated on me and swears on her parents and brother.  I know i haven't been with anyone else.  Here lies the problem.
           Assuming she hasn't been with anyone else, and me neither.  And that we were both virgins when we did it
           and we have been having unprotected sex for over a year now.  Can this now turn out to be herpes now
           considering we have had sex a lot and nothing has ever appeared.?  Can it be anything else? AND ANY
           SUGGESTIONS ? (thank you for reading this and for your help in advance)
