Chance of herpies(herpes) infection

by Bbohhy, Nov 01, 2009 05:31PM
Hi

The other day I engaged in oral sex with a girl. Realised the day after that I had what looks like cold sores on my lips (the itching had been so mild I had not noticed it). What is the chance of me having infected this girl during such an encounter? Is there any tests that can be done to check whether she has been infected? How long would it usually take for the first outbreak?

Anyone? I am really worried.

The first outbreak usually appears 2-12 days after infection. If no symptoms by then its a pretty good chance she didnt get it.

Have you talked to her about this?

Has she ever been tested to know her own hsv1 status?

anxiouswithhsv1,

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

gracefrom HHP,

Of course I have. She is pretty sure she is negative, but cannot remember looking at it specifically. She took a test a 3-4 days ago, and the results should be back today or tomorrow. Wait and see I guess.

How much protection do you think a positive hsv1 status will give her against contracting it in the genital area?

It has been 8 days so far and nothing yet. How long does it usually pass before the first outbreak if she has contracted it from me?

At this point nothing you can do but wait. If she contracted hsv1 genitally from you, symptoms will occur within 2-20 days post encounter. No symptoms, no more reason to worry from that encounter.  If she has hsv1 already, odds of her contracting hsv1 genitally later on are incredibly low.
