Grace,  what are the odds if you do suppression therapy with Valtrex 500mg/day in place of the acyclovir?

Grace you are correct it is 400mg sorry for the mistake , so basically odds are very much in our favour that I will not pass it on if I am on suppressive therapy and we use condoms ?

we don't have the same stats for oral sex as we do genital sex. a partner can contract hsv2 orallybut the risk of such is very low in general. daily suppressive therapy reduces the risk of transmission even more as well as barrier protection can also be used.

the suppressive therapy dose of acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day. please check your dose to see if perhaps that's really the dose you are on.

if you did nothing but avoid sex anytime you had anything going on genitally with a female partner, over the course of an entire year, she'd be 90-92% likely NOT to contract hsv2 from you. Daily suppressive therapy and proper condom use in addition to that increases her odds of staying hsv2 negative to 97-98% likely NOT to contract hsv2 from you each year.
