All,
This question is mainly directed towards Dr. H. Hunter Handsfield because most of my research came from his posts. I recently had unprotected sex with someone a little over a month ago. Since then I have not had sex for about 6 months. I read that IgM tests are completely useless because they cannot distinguish between the two types of herpes but I had one done and it came back equivocal at 0.96. I also read a post by Dr. Hansfield concerning couples with one being HSV-2 positive and the other one is not. He said that it is about a 3-5% chance that the negative member get infected with HSV-2 during a year of having unprotected sex. So my question is...
If I had my IgM come back at 0.96 (equivocal) and I did not see any signs of an outbreak with this person I recently had unprotected sex with shouldn't my chances of not having HSV-2 be pretty good since there is only a 3-5% chance of transmitting between a HSV + and HSV - couple?
Even though the IgM is considered useless wouldn't it prove useful in this case in determining that I did not catch anything from my ex-girlfriend?
Thank you for everyone's support on this forum, this is such a blessing to have these questions answered and have a community so supportive.
