, (either me giving or receiving) if the women has no visible sores/lesions/visible outbreak symptoms.
If in the event I was to contract HSV2 would there be any guaranteed symptoms within x days after exposure? I have read that some people can carry the infection and not display any visible symptoms but even then would those people have exhibited any symptoms after initial exposure?
The initial timeframe for HSV to show up is 2-20 days typically. But if you have symptoms you need to be seen for a lesision culture.
There is only a shedding stat to which I could give you. My better question is this though... Why would you not want to know your partners status prior to engaging in sexual
contact if in fact you are worried about HSV? Seems to me that while going on holiday is fun but having sex with random strangers would be out when having concerns for things like herpes.
Oral sex for Herpes is a low risk activity. However even having sex with a condom on isn't going to do much to stop transmission of herpes. condoms reduce risk by about 30%.
Thanks for the response. I wasn't aware that condoms only reduce the risk by 30%. Why is that? So aside from a condom what protection is there against herpes?
And yes if I was with someone I was going to see on a regular basis I would want to know her history but chances are I will be engaging with people on a 1 night basis.
Herpes is spread by skin to skin contact. Think of when you have sex. Your condom only protects part of your genitials. You have more skin unprotected and with the friction of sex if your partner has the virus on the skin at the time you have sex then you are at risk for transmission.
If you are worried about Herpes then I would avoid the 1 night stands.
Dude, please be careful with sex workers over there,,, you may end up regretting that for years to come!
On another note,,, is there a topical gel that can be applied to the genital area before sex to reduce or kill viruses? Perhaps something alcohol based ?
