Chemistry of HSV IgM molecule

I was tested positive for HSV IgM and negative for both HSV IgG tests. Since then i have been searching for more information on the HSV IgM test. So far the most concrete information i have about the HSV IgM's unreliability is the quoted text from Doctor Hunter.

"False positive results are extremely common--probably not due to cross reaction with some other infection, just related to the biology and chemistry of the IgM molecule. " ---  H. Hunter Handsfield, M.D.

Does any one know of any scholarly articles or anything that explains

     1. The chemistry of the HSV IgM molecule.
     2. Why cross reactions are unlikely.
     3. Why quest includes a note under the HSV IgM test explaining that cross reactions are possible.

how long before you were tested had you last had sex?

what led to your getting tested? did you have symptoms or was this just a basic screening?
