Clinic lost test results!

Clinic lost test results!

So I had sex with someone who has never had any symptoms for genital herpes, but has also never been tested for it. The next day after intercourse I noticed what I presumed was just irritation, but after the few red bumps didn't heal over a week, I panicked and went to get tested for genital herpes. The day before testing I noticed a blister, so I was pretty convinced I had it. Now, a week later, the doctors somehow have no record of me ever getting tested or sending my tests into the lab...Don't know how such a thing could occur, but whatever.

I'm a bit worried because I am not having an outbreak (if that's what it was) anymore, so they can't get a sample from the blister. I was also informed that I wouldn't be able to get a blood test for three months after potential exposure because the antibodies wouldn't show up or something. Not entirely sure what to do...I asked the guy to go get a blood test, but who knows when that'll happen. Where should I go from here?

It was indeed very unprofessional of the Clinic to lose your results that's very bad, you will have to wait a bit for another test unless you have symptoms that you feel would benefit from a culture swab,Herpes would not show up the day after it would take at least 4 days to a week,so with that in mind I don't think you need worry too much at this stage, you also tested far too early anyways it is best to wait about 2 - 3 months after potential exposure before testing .....

I was told to get tested during an outbreak. When can I get a blood test just to make sure? I don't know what else the outbreak could have been...my symptoms seemed to match up perfectly. However, I have to say, hearing this is quite the relief.

Unfortunately errors do happen. Hopefully they can track down your test results for you too now that they know they are missing.

At this point I recommend getting a type specific herpes igg blood test now to see what your status is. If it's not a newly acquired infection and just your first obvious recurrence of a prior infection, it will be reflected on the igg blood test now. If your blood test is only hsv1+ or is negative, repeat it in 3 months and see what it shows then. If you get a return of symptoms before that point, see your provider within 48 hours for lesion culture and typing again.
