But the past 3 and a half years I would still be worried, and in the back of my mind I would sometimes freak myself out, I would always inspect my penis
for any signs. Even when I never saw a sign, I would drive myself crazy and make myself believe I had genital herpes. My mind was just THAT powerful.
Finally I figured I would do the right thing and go get tested and know my status.
I was pretty certain I would not have herpes, but I was terrified.
TEST RESULTS:
HSV 1 : Positive
HSV 2 : Negative
You have no idea how relieved I was when I got the results. It took about 4 days for the result to get back. And those 4 days were awful. But after knowing that I am NEGATIVE for HSV2, it was worth.
However I am positive for HSV1 but it does not bother me as much, because the doctor told me A LOT of people have it. I am a college student and the doctor said I might have gotten it by kissing someone, sharing cups etc. Or, I could have gotten it when I was younger. Or, it could have also have been genetic.
But knowing that I am Negative for HSV2 was all that mattered to me.
The past 3 years have been really hard. I tried to live my life and not worry but it always stuck in my mind.
Should I FINALLY move on?
Can I rely on these result?
I just want some closure and move on and never have to worry about it ever again?
. Though I would like to say as an adult your risk from HSV-1 orally is from the romantic kisses. Sharing cups and so forth really isn't much of a risk for herpes.
hsv1 is not a genetic disease. it isn't passed on through your genes at all. It's a viral infection that is transmitted through contact with the infected area. At your age, 1 out of every 3 people you know has it whether they get obvious cold sores or not to know it. http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.cfm has terrific information for you to learn more about hsv1. Odds are your hsv1 is oral since you can't recall any obvious signs of genital herpes ( sounds like all you saw were you obsessing over your genital area - typically hsv1 genital herpes infections present with very classic and obvious symptoms when it's contracted initially ).
Now that you know you have hsv1, be sure to discuss it with your future partners. They too should make sure they've had herpes testing since it's not a part of routine
