Cold Sore and 2 Day old Newborn

I carry the HSV1 and get cold sores on my lip.  I currently do not have an outbreak,  but my 2-day old daughter just rubbed her chapped hand across my mouth as she was crying and was able to rub her eye ans put her hand in her mouth before I was able to wash it. How freaked out should I be that I could of possibly passed the virus to her.  I know how serious this can be in a newborn. We are already home from the hospital, so I can't ask a nurse and she doesn't have her first weight check at the pediatrician until Thursday. Also,  am I correct in assuming I passed my hsv1 antibioties to her during my pregnancy. I belive I have had Hsv1 for 7 years.

Thank you,
Laura

OK,  freak out again,  but based on your responses there is no risk, but just making sure:

I just was changing the diaper my now 1-week old. Diaper was off and I yell to my husband in the other room that I've run out of wipes and to please get me more. As I'm yelling this out I see spit fly onto my baby's Diaper area. So of course I freak out about passing my oral HSV1 to my baby's Diaper area. I still don't have an active cold sore, but is it correct that the virus can shed in saliva without symptoms?

Thanks,
Laura

this was not a risk for your child!! It takes far more than her hand brushing against your lips to transmit the virus!!

Just remember not to kiss her on the lips or eyes and never "clean" a bottle or a pacifier with your mouth. Many very common germs that can affect babies easily are transmitted this way and is something no care giver should ever do.

Congratulations on your baby!!!

Yes your correct that you have passed the antibodies but tempararily. Herpes is not passed from the hand like your mentioning but needs direct rubbing contact to be at risk, like kissing.so there was no risk for the child. Also you not having any lip sores at the time, should give your complete confidence that nothing was passed anyway.
