Cold Sore to genital herpes transmission

Cold Sore to genital herpes transmission

Hi two days ago I had sex with my girlfriend that has hsv-1, she then put my penis in her mouth for no longer than 10 seconds.

She did not have a visible cold sore on her lip at the time, but she did have a couple small "nicks" from biting her lip. I have monitered her lip to see if she is beginning to develop a sore but doesnt look as though she is. Today I am starting to get worried as I am having a slight itch/funny sensation in my genital region.

I am wondering if these symptoms are all just paranoa

I have no memory of ever having a cold sore so I am just going to assume for now that I dont have the hsv-1 virus.... so what would the chances be of my contracting genital herpes from this encounter

Oral sex is low risk for Herpes.  Chances are its your anxiety.  If you are going to worry in the future use a condom for safer oral sex.  If you get any symptoms be seen within 24-48 hours for a lesion culture.

I realize its low risk... it must be an even lower risk if there is no visible cold sore present, and the fact there was only oral contact for a few seconds... just like to hear other opinions

also does the fact that she had a small cut on her lip make the risk higher for me

Low risk is the assumption of no sores.  The virus can shed without any symptoms being present.  So its low risk.  The time doesn't matter if there was enough virus present for transmission and infection it won't matter.  There is no studies to show if time has an impact.  Though we don't look at time just the encounter.  You are trying to split hairs here to make this prove you don't have it.  Unless you get symptoms within 2-20 days after the encounter you have nothing to worry about.  In the future use a condom to prevent this scare.

alright thank you for your opinion... I gues her having a small cut doesnt affect the risk of transmission?

The trauma could pose a problem but again not everyone that comes into contact with HSV gets infected.  It take fritction and heat to transmit the virus.  Oral sex is a LOW risk activity.  Meaning its NO risk.  It just means there is a risk but its small.  We don't recommend testing for oral sex because that is how low it is.  Now if you get symptoms be seen within 24-48hours for a lesion culture and typing.  If you don't see anything in 20 days you can safely move past it.

to add to this we had been kissing fairly heavily before the short episode.... since it is in fact oral herpes would it not have been more likely to affect my lips than my genitals......im saying this because I have had nothing on my lip surface
