Cold sore transmission and prodrome symptoms

So I have HSV 1 that causes me occasional cold sores. Sometimes I get what I believe are prodrome symptoms (A bit of skin sensitivity at the bottom of my rib cage or around my abdomen and around my right eye socket). Most times when I get these symptoms it rarely leads to any cold sore outbreak with actual blisters. (As a side note I have been told that these prodrome symptoms are more common with HSV 2 but I have been tested for HSV 2 and I am negative). Anyway, so I am now in a new relationship and obviously do not want to transmit the virus through kissing. I had these symptoms show up yesterday but they are gone today. I have no sign of any cold sore. I realize that with potential asymptomatic shedding nothing is ever for sure, but I would like your thoughts on whether with you would consider this a safer period for kissing with the symptoms gone and no cold sore. Also, I do take L Lysine daily, but would adding an anti viral help reduce cold sore transmission risk? How contagious are people generally during prodrome stage (i.e. less or equally as contagious with an actual blister outbreak)? Thanks for any feedback and it is great to find a site like this.

you and your partner can't make educated decisions about what precautions to take for oral sex until you know her status. she should seek out testing for better answers.

no reason to think that you have hsv1 genitally since you have it orally.

Thank you so much for your reply.  I do have a regular partner but she has not been tested for HSV 1.  I realize that a lot of people have been exposed to HSV 1 but I just want to be as cautious as possible with transmission.  I have always been confused about the skin sensitivity/mild soreness symptoms.  I just assumed that it was the HSV causing them because I have read online that others claim to have skin sensitivity with prodrome symptoms, although they seem to usually be genital or HSV 2.  I tend to get the sensitivity just below the rib cage at the top of my abdomen and sometimes around my eye socket and occasionally around my armpit.  I wonder if it is possible that I have HSV 1 gentially as well as orally?  I remember have a sore near my anus before but I never made the connection.  It gets more confusing when I think about it and it maes it hard to make the right decision.

oral herpes doesn't involve any nerves that would be in the rib cage or abdominal area.   any pain you are getting in those areas, aren't remotely related to your oral herpes infection.   They are also different nerves than what would be infected with genital herpes too.

you can sometimes get symptoms near the eyes but that would be unusual too for cold sores.

lysine doesn't help speed healing of cold sores nor does it help reduce them. you are already getting more than enough lysine in your diet naturally anyways.

do you have a regular partner? if so, have they been tested yet to know their own status?
