Concerned about Herpes infection

Doctor:

I am a 38 year old male. I had unprotected sex both oral and vaginal with a co-worker on May 17th - huge mistake.  The next day I developed itching around the head of my penis and an unusual feeling in the head of my penis.  I have never showed any lesions or blisters.  I went to the clinic and was checked for gonorrhea and clamidya - both negative.  It is now June 22nd and I still have the strange feeling in the head of my penis.  I went to the clinic again a week and a half ago and the diagnosis was constapation.  Now, I have diarrhea, stomach pain and swollen lymph glands.  I feel as though I have to urinate and when I do the stream is reduced and I feel as though I can not completly empty my bladder.  The co-worker was tested for everything except for herpes - all negative.  Any chance that these above symptoms are caused by herpes?  The co-worker is going to get retested for Herpes.  In the original test the blood clotted before the test could be done.

Thanks!

You both do not have any symptoms that suggest herpes!! First off, if you got an itch or ANYTHING the next day from sex, it is NOT NOT NOT and STD.. STD's take a minimum of 2 days for anything to show up.. What you should do is take this case to your Urologist and discuss bladder infection possible prostatis... It's not herpes so relax...

Not due to herpes.

sorry forgot to mention another reassuring factor is that the onset (one day) is extremely fast if it were herpes!! This was a major reason why my doctor was adamant it wasnt herpes (and rather a urinary tract infection)...

Wow, our circumstances are incredibly similar.

I had unprotected vaginal and oral sex on the 21st of may and still suffer from the symptoms you list above.

I went to the doctor the day after - I recommend you do the same.
If you have had no lesions (like me) - its more than likely a case of non specific urethritis (since you tested negative for chlam & gon). In your case however, it seems that you may have a case of cystitis - which is what my doctor diagnosed (bladder infection). In any case it is likely that you have a bacterial (or potentially a viral) infection of the bladder / urethra. google non specific urethritis and cystitis --> also go see a doctor.

I am struggling with the notion that this may be herpes but from what i have read - and believe me i have had many sleepless nights reading - its incredibly unlikely to be herpes. My reassuring factors are:
- the symptoms have lasted too long for herpes
- there is no dramatic elevated pain during urination
- with herpetic urethritis the pain is usually described as severe and is also very unlikely if no lesions are visible

I guess your options are to see the doctor and get herpes blood tests at 3 months aswell.

Try a course of anti-biotics your doctor may prescribe for what i think is a simple urinary tract infection (cystitis, or non specific urethritis). Also i found a product called URAL that is over the counter and highly effective at minimising pain by increasing the alkalinity of the urine and preventing further bacterial growth.

Again my doctor has re-assured me several times that it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY to be herpes.....

So please know that someone truly cares how you go and has a good feeling that you are suffering from a urinary tract infection rather than herpes!

Let me know how you go - Good Luck!
