I was diagnosed with genital HSV-1 10 years ago, the outbreak/sore itself was swabbed and tested. I just got another STD screening and it came back negative for HSV-1 but positive for HSV-2 (2.53 was the level). I've never had another outbreak since the first time. Actually had I not had an OBGYN appt within the same time I may not have even known.
My question is which type do I have? I remember vividly seeing the positive for HSV-1 as I was devastated.
If you had a lesion cultured and typed as hsv1+, then that's what you had at that point. Even the best blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections so it not being reflected on your latest blood test isn't too unusual.
your hsv2 igg is a low positive and needs confirmed with additional testing. A herpes WB is the best test to use to see if you also have hsv2 or not. if you have a regular partner, they too should be tested for herpes.
