Confused about oral herpes

i had some small bumps appear on the lips of my vagina. They were irritating (itchy)so i went to the doctor and had a pap. my doctor said that the bumps were nothing to be worried about. i asked for a herpes test to be sure. The results came back positive for oral herpes. I have never had a cold sore in my life. I have been married for five years. I have never seen a cold core on my husband. so i'm confused on where i might of came from. and should i be worried, because i was told that it was sexually transmitted. I we have been each others only partner. and i thought they test you for stuff like that before you get married?

http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.cfm   is a terrific link on oral herpes for more reading.  oral herpes is incredibly common - statistically 1 out of every 2-3 people you know has it.

So you had a type specific herpes igg blood test I'm assuming that came back as hsv1+?  Even though you can't recall ever having had cold sores, not surprising that you tested + for hsv1. Most adults have it but only 20-40% of them ever get obvious cold sores to know that they are infected with the virus.

At this point your hubby should also get a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what his status is. Just knowing your status is only 1/2 of the picture.

No, they don't test for herpes when you get married. odds are that neither of you have ever been tested for herpes before.

when you had your exam done, did they say if you had a yeast or bacterial infection going on vaginally at all?
