Confused about test results

So I got my blood test results back today and for HSV 1/2 IGG its 1.72 and for HSV 1/2 IGM is 4.81 . Im confused about what this means. Does this mean I was recently infected? My doctor seemed to allude so. I was also wondering what the IGG and IGM stood for? And which is which? Im pretty sure that I have it and I'm pretty bummed im only 19.I just really would like some help with this if anyone can ! Thank you

You do not describe anything that puts herpes high on the list of possibilities.

I'd say you do then have an oral HSV1 infection. Hence combined testing is quite useless as it will now be positive regardless of whether you become infected with HSV2. The IgM is also useless as it could the IgM antibodies reacting to activity of the HSV1 infection.

You need to ask for IgG antibody testing type specific for HSV1 and HSV2. Never have a combined test again. You also need to wait until 12 weeks after possible exposure to be sure that a negative is conclusive.

I got tested because I had swollen lymph nodes and some sore bumps. my partner also had some red spots. Just odd how it came on all of a sudden! I noticed them on 4th of july so all the doctors places were closed on monday i went to the doctor and by that time they were gone so i got a blood test. Ive had cold sores before about 3 or 4 times as a kid and am actually getting one at the moment. I made an appointment to follow up on friday to go over the results more thoroughly with another doctor. I also slept with a new person starting about a month ago who ive talked to and said he didnt have anything  but i informed him of this so hes going to go get tested as well.

It is difficult to believe that doctors order combined HSV1/2 testing.

Have you ever had oral cold sores? It is very likely here that you have an oral HSV1 infection from your youth. One of your parents probably has the virus.

IgG (immunoglobulin G) is a type of antibody that is permanently manufactured by your body. IgM is another type of antibody that is only made at various times, such as with a new infection.

You doctor is wrong about recent infection. That would be indicated by a positive IgM and a negative IgG. Once you have the virus, IgG is permanent and IgM shows up every now and again.

Combined testing is pretty useless as more than half the population has an oral HSV1 infection.

What are you concerned about, how are any symptoms going? Why did you test?
