Constant Outbreak

The last 6 weeks I have had a TON of stress.  I have had HSV-2 for roughly 17 months adn have never really had any long or severe outbreaks, only about 4 a year.  This past week I started getting one and it was a little different.  I was on supressive therapy for a while but stopped in May.  Since stopping I have an OB a month though none bad and only lasting a few days to a week but last week this one started and it was worse than the other ones have been. All of my OBs have been on the right side this one seemed to start with a bump on the left but ulcered in the same place as always.  I started taking my acyclovir about 2 days into the OB and have been taking it twice a day every day since.  It didn't seem to be multiple ulcers just one but it doesn't seem to be clearing up as fast as all the others.  Does the acyclovir take time to build up once you start taking it again?  Why would this OB last longer than all the rest I have had (I am on day 8),  It seems to be getting better just not as fast as I would like.  Any one have this experience before or have any advice?  Still new to this virus and all the things and ways it can effect you.

I'd follow up in a  few weeks after you've completed your treatment for yeast and get a proper work up for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally too.  bv doesn't present with symptoms in 1/2 of women who have it, it's very common and it's known to make hsv2 more active. It's well worth the time for most women.

I haven't had monthly ob's up until about July of this year.  I had a total of 4 last year including my primary.  So it wasn't a huge issue for me to go thru this one how ever is kicking my butt.   So I will wait until this one clears as it is getting better and I already have a yeast infection due to antibiotics I have been on recently so I am hopeful since it does seem to have gotten better that I will wait it out and continue taking the acyclovir until it goes away.

acyclovir for recurrences is 400mg 3x/day for 5 days or 800mg 3x/day for 2 days. both doses heal ob's at the same rate.

definitely return to your provider this week or next and get a proper test for yeast and bacterial infections. make sure neither of them are triggering frequent recurrences for you.

why not suppressive therapy if you are having monthly ob's?  even if they are "mild", isn't that just a pain in the butt to go through?
