Constant burning, pins and needles all over body after contracting HSV -2

Hi,

I'm hoping someone could help me; I slept with someone without protection 2 months ago and I got gonorrhoea and HSV 2 and an anal fissure;  when I was diagnosed with HSV 2 I had lesions around my anus; and a tingling sensation down my legs. I went through standard prodome, flu like system, was on valtrex for 7 days for 1000 mg a day. I've gone through several doctors visit and counselling as this has been a very stressful and life changing event for me;

However after most things has settled, even after 2 months has passed; I am still getting some symptoms which seems identical to prodomes, everyday I'm getting pinch and needles and shooting pain in my buttock,buns, followed by a twitch inside my anus (almost seems like crawling sensation). And then I get burning sensation on my toes, thighs, elbows, wrists, arms and neck.

I'm trying to see if anyone had gone through similar symptom; if this is because of HSV2 or is it a separate nerve issue? Does prodome happens continuous everyday? Or could it be a nerve damage or injury from anal fissure, or back injury? I did had some back pain from a dead lift in November.

I would really appreciate if someone could give me some feedback, please and thankyou so much! Sorry about the lengthy writing

Hi Life360,

I have came back from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, as my burning sensation and pins and needles were uncontrollable; They did some legs and arms strength test, and ruled out any nerve issues; they didn't want to do MRI.

I am out of any ideas.

I live in Melbourne; the sexual health clinic said only swab tests are done to accertain if there is HSV2 or not; they found it from the swab from my anus; could it still be herpes zoster here?

You might double check with your lab or doctor that they did not mixup the Zoster virus with hsv2. Its been done before. I doubt it however as most with shingle outbreaks are people 50 and above and the rash appears only on one side and is most on the back or chest. Just a thought.

Thank you Life360! I will insist the GP to perform a MRI scan on me; and would ask her to refer me to a neurologist; this has changed my life drastically; my mom died out of a chronic disease and I think ever since I've always priotise my health and this event has definitely impacted me well enough.

All I want is to not have constant nerve pain or burning sensation; I've come to accept the fact that I may have OBs, maybe couple of times as being the first year; I've mentally made myself ready for it. I hope my constant nerve issues have a solution

Thankyou everyone for their input! I really appreciate it!

Could shingles cause a hsv2  test to be positive?

We are not here to cause any alarm and we are not sure if chris is having the same issues as you.
Post Herpetic neuralgia is a condition of herpes zoster, also known as shingles not hsv2 genital. Nerve damage has not been documented as a complication in any reading i have seen.

What i would suggest is to have an MRI to rule out any back injury.

Thankyou life360! I'm just trying to see if I can convince the GP to refer me to a neurologist, I did injure my back in November after a unsuccessful dead lift but never had any issues upto now, after contracting HSV2.

I really really hope it's unrelated to herpes and there is some sort of solution to this constant burning and pins and needles all over body.. Trust me; this is making my life very difficult

Is it is also happening to you Chris32 then my question goes to all the medical expert and herpes expert:

Why is this happening and why doesn't medical science recognise this? Please tell me there is a solution? Or do I have to live with this constant burning all over the body and sharp pains and twitching 24/7? Why isn't doctors recognising that it's from herpes?

I'm really lost, and now extremely worried, knowing that I'm not alone and people like Chris32 is having the same symptom? What exactly are we going through and what's the solution;

Sorry about such a frustrating post.. I'm loosing all hopes now

Not sure whats causing the constant issues but pins and needles would be associated with a pinched nerve and burning from a pulled muscle. Maybe you injured yourself during the act itself. Any back injury associated with feet and legs could be a injured back disc, strain or pulled muscle
Is it possible to have nerve damage from herpes? Yes but its not common and more for those with long term herpes outbreaks.

Hi Life360!

Thank you for the quick reply! I am a gay male; and I was trying out being the bottom in the sexual encounter; there was direct skin to skin contact; the swab test came back positive.

Without getting too much into the detail; there was a degree of force applied to me while having sex and I was induced into amyl for which I had a tear inside my anal which became a fissure.

Every time in visited doctors and counsellors they told me gential herpes only have prodomes before outbreak and it usually facts the area it got infected first, for me it would be anal area.

I am sort of relieved to know that you think it might not  a constant prodome but now I'm thinking why am I having constant pins and needles, sharp pain in buttock, twitch inside anus, and especially burning sensation on my feet, upper part of the feet, thighs and especially arms, elbows, wrists and my neck.. Isn't that completely different parts of body to have burning sensation from HSV2?

Would you have any guess to suggestion, I would really appreciate it; it has been my 5th visit to GP; she thinks it's all my head and keeps giving me relaxation medicine;

Thankyou in advance!

Hi, are you male or female? A couple of issues here. First when we speak of prodrome its most often about those who already have herpes and have had an outbreak already and is a sign of a pending outbreak. Its somewhat reliable and can be used as a tool predicting them.
Also having an outbreak on your anal area with a recent infection (as you mention you had a fever) genital contact from the partner would have needed to be in direct skin contact with  your anal area for this to be a recent infection.
If no rubbing skin contact was made, then this would be considered a recurrent outbreak, meaning you contracted it prior to the affair.
Tingling prodome should not last more than a few days before a sore appears. Constant nonstop tingling would not be herpes related.
