Continous HSV outbreaks 7 months.

I am curious about other experiences, as this sucks! I was diagnosed with genital HSV in 01/2016, swab (not typed), and blood test positive for HSV 1. Prior to initial outbreak, I had a bad virus, extremely lowered white blood count, and wiped out immune system. Severe yeast infections from antibiotics.

Initial outbreak was severe, and lasted over a month. Given the wiped out immune system, gave time to recover physically. Since that time, I have stopped drinking, cleaned up diet, stopped eating nuts, no bubble baths, sex, waxing/shaving,taking daily vitamins/probiotics/Vitamin C, and for the most part, taking Valtrex.

I have had continuous prodrome symptoms, and 9 outbreaks with sores. Everything seems to cause a problem. Running, heavy exercise, minor sleep disruption, wine, underwear, friction, shaving...I may get one or two days relief of symptoms, but then immediately will feel the tasered feeling start, and then irritation or pain. Its been impossible to get back into shape, and sexual relationships are out. When I start to get another outbreak, I get a day of heavy fatigue....which is almost worse.

I have cut out a lot of stress in my life from this, and I am trying to get back to normal. Its very hard to do, as I cant exercise or even think about starting a new sexual relationship with the constant symptoms.

I am just curious, is this normal the first year? My white blood count is back to normal, and I don't feel that I could be doing anything differently. Outside of the "bathing suit area", everything is going well. This is just so frustrating!

Just because you have herpes, doesn't mean that everything that goes on in the genital area is due to herpes. At this point you will  need to start confirming your symptoms as due to herpes. It's annoying, but be seen whenever you have symptoms if it's more than every 3 months in between recurrences. Make sure they swab them and also test for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally.

Take your valtrex religiously. You should be taking either 1gm once a day or 500mg twice a day since you are having frequent recurrences.  It should significantly reduce recurrences if you are taking it daily. If you can confirm that indeed what all is going on is due to herpes and it is still occurring with the suppressive therapy, you can try other options. Very few people will still have frequent recurrences while on suppressive therapy so it's well worth being seen frequently until you figure out what is going on.

I used to have about 20 recurrences of herpes a year. It does happen. I went down to 3-4/yearly on suppressive therapy and then over time down to 1-2/year on suppressive therapy. It really does work.

HSV 2
I did have a yeast infection, and my HSV IGG was 2.95. Taking medication for yeast issue did clear up some of the issues. I also stopped taking Valtrex, as I felt it was almost causing half the constant chafing feeling. No medications in several weeks. I have had 3 minor outbreaks, no sores, that went away after two days. I do still feel like an outbreak or start of one is triggered very easily, but I overall feel so much better not taking the Valtrex. It made me feel like I had dry mouth and prodrome every day. I am hoping that my body is just recovering from 7 months of trauma, and will get better. Still very frustrating. I feel like life revolves around keeping the virus in check, and ultimately it still goes nuts.

I have read similar testimonies from many others who have experienced exactly what you're describing... Some have no symptoms or minor symptoms and then others have the extreme like what you are experiencing... I know from others I've also heard that the first year is the worst and then after that the virus starts to settle down... You're on the right course trying to take better care of yourself... I think that goes a long way in helping control the virus
