Continuous tingling

I was diagonised with HSV in July of 2009. My initial outbreak was relatively minor, and I only had one more in 2009.

In March of 2010 I started on Valtrex. I immediately had a break out that was worse than my initial outbreak (actually scarred). I continued on with the Valtrex until 1 week ago. I stopped because since than outbreak when I started Valtrex, I've felt a continual tingling/itching in the base of my spine. I haven't had any other outbreaks.

I've been wondering if this tingling is due to the herpes virus being active, if there's some nerve issue, or if its something else.

Thanks,

suppressive therapy with acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day.

Once daily acyclovir is not effective.

Thanks for this. I finally got the acyclovir today. The prescription says 1 400 mg a day, but I've read on here I should use 2x400 mg. Which is correct?

some folks do have adverse reactions to valtrex. I'd try acyclovir suppressively instead of the valtrex and see if that works better for you. Even though valtrex is an acyclovir prodrug, some folks just do  better on the acyclovir than they do the valtrex. My guess would be because you get less active acyclovir in your body with plain ole acyclovir than you do valtrex but we have no studies to back this assumption.
