Contracting herpes through a hang nail

Hello,

I recently had sexual contact with a girl who is positive with the genital herpes virus. Although I did not have sex, I did use my fingers to stimulate her. The next morning I realized that I had a small cut in my middle finger in which I used the prior night during the sexual encounter. Can the virus be transfered through this cut? She was not showing any signs of an outbreak and is taking medication daily. Please let me the chances of contracting the virus.

this is still really low risk of contracting herpes on your finger. she is not shedding the virus 24/7/365 for you to contract it from her.

Grace- That is a relief to hear. How low is "really low risk"? Could you possibly provide a percentage or some kind of comparison?

Also, if i was to somehow contract it, would genital herpes be the result or would I get herpes Whitlow?

you would contract herpes on your finger. the virus doesn't travel through the body to the genital area.

we don't have stats for the risk of acquiring herpes whitlow.

if you plan on being further involved with this gal, I can gladly provide you with more info in order to protect yourself and keep the risk of acquiring her herpes genitally minimal :)

Thanks so much for your helpful knowledge thus far. I just have a couple more questions for you.

In your experience, how likely is it to spread herpes to yourself by touching your genitals after using your fingers on a girl that is positive with HSV 1 but not showing any signs of an outbreak? Have you seen any cases where this has happened? Also, how often does a female with HSV 1 "shed" the virus without showing any signs?

I last came in contact with this girl early Saturday morning. Once again, she has HSV-1 genitally and is not currently showing any signs. While hooking up she performed oral sex on me and I used my fingers on her. The following monday I started to experience an irritation on the ring around the head of my penis. It is slightly inflamed but does not itch. It feels very similar to chaffing but does not seem to be letting up. It is now Thursday afternoon and the feeling remains. No blisters or ulcers have developed but it is sensitive to touch.

Does this sound like the beginning stages of HSV-1?

At what stage of an outbreak do the blisters typically form?

Is it a possibility that I contracted the virus while "cuddling" during sleep?

If not herpes, what else could it be?

IT could be anything.  I doubt its herpes and no you don't get it from cuddling.  Be seen by your provider for a proper work up.  I think you need to stop worrying so much if you are going to be with her.  Otherwise you need to move on.
