I have done extensive research but can't find answers to these questions. I hope you can help.
1) I have HSV1 orally and have not had a cold sore for 25+ years. A potential girlfriend has HSV1 genitally. We have both done type-specific blood tests and both are HSV1 positive and HSV2 negative. Does my HSV1 prevent me from getting outbreaks in new locations due to my genital skin coming in contact with her genital outbreak? Does my HSV1 help me here in any way? Before being sexual
2) Can a person spread outbreaks to new locations on him/herself without anyone else involved?
3) These questions are primarily about the further spreading while already positive. Is there any research on this? What is the general consensus? For example, does having HSV1 diminish the chances of contracting HSV2? What percentage of the population has both 1 & 2?
anytime she has anything going on genitally to err on the side of caution.
no you aren't likely to spread herpes all over your body. You can autoinnoculate on other body parts during the initial infection but not many folks do that in general. Once the first ob has run its course, your body has built up protective antibodies to help keep you from contracting herpes on other body parts in general.
Hsv1 doesn't provide any significant protection against contracting hsv2.
