Cost of Herpes Medications - are they all effective?

My insurance covered the cost of VALTREX until I met my prescription cap.  Then I had to pay out of my own pocket.

I discovered that the best price I could get for VALTREX (Valcyclovir) was about $400 for a 30 day supply (Heads up:  your local neighborhood pharmacist may be able to beat any internet prices you see - much safer and worth the time it takes to make a few local calls). FAMVIR was less but still several hundred dollars a month.  Turns out that ACYCLOVIR, an older drug that has gone generic because the patents have expired,  can be purchased for about $10 per month, with a prescription, from a local pharmacist.
