Could Herpes be misdiagnosed as Impetigo?

I was diagnosed with Impetigo by my doctor, though I have heard that hsv commonly gets misdiagnosed as Impetigo. I've never had hsv, so I'd just like to be aware on how to differentiate the two. My doc saw a yellow, honey-colored scab on my upper chin, and immediately ruled hsv out for some reason. Hsv also has yellow scabs right? I asked for a culture, but he said he would have to dig into the scab in order to get to the fluid.

It's been on my face now for 5 days. While applying the antibiotic with a q-tip, I noticed how easily the yellow scab comes off, and reveals a zit like wound underneath. The yellow crusting keeps coming back really fast no matter how much I wash or scrape the area. Are these symptoms of a cold sore? And am I prolonging it by accidentally scraping the scab off?

Thank you all for spending time with my health questions for the past year, I greatly appreciate it.
