Could I have gotten herpes?

Hi all,

I've posted on this forum before, but I keep having these herpes scares.  I was involved in a sexual encounter on Saturday 3 days ago, in which I received unprotected oral sex from a girl (I'm a guy).  On Monday, I started feeling like I had a sore throat, and when I woke up today, I felt terrible: I had a really bad sore throat, my body ached, my lymph nodes on my neck were swollen, I had a fever, and just general flu feelings.  I went to the university's hospital today and the doctor thinks I just have a strep throat, and we're waiting for the results to be processed tomorrow.  She also noticed a bump on the right corner of my mouth, which she said was angular chielitis.  However, what I'm worried about is that these flu-like symptoms came so soon after my sexual encounter, and my partner was not sick (she told me she felt tired yesterday, but not sick).  I also asked her if she had any cold sores on her mouth, and she told me she didn't.  Is it still possible that I got herpes, represented by this coincidental onset of flu-like symptoms?  The other thing is that once I took advil, I felt a lot better, and my symptoms have calmed down quite a bit since, which seems unusual since I was so ill just earlier today.  Please let me know your guys' opinions on this matter!!!

really sounds like you have a non-std related viral infection going on.

Thanks for the info.  What are the general precursor symptoms for genital herpes (hsv1 or hsv2)?  Would I have swollen lymph nodes in my genital area rather than neck?

If I have a sore throat, swollen tonsils, fever, stomach ache, body aches, and sweats, does that sound more like a viral infection (like phayrngitis or mono) rather than herpes, because I don't have any visible sores?  Or are those symptoms similar to those that appear during herpes?

you received oral - that wouldn't give you symptoms of a std orally - you'd have them genitally. make sense?

you should always be having protected sexual contact!! not worth the risk to your health as well as it obviously triggers your anxiety.

many cold and flu germs are transmitted from touching surfaces as well as just breathing within 3 feet of others.  you could've gotten sick from this gal as well as anyone you were around all weekend or the week before.

really, it's not all herpes and it's not all std's!!
