Could i have herpes?!? how should i retest?

so I posted quite a long story/ question the other day, and I still have some questions.  to save time i'll just say the major points which are, I've had four low risk sexual partners in my life, I've never had any sign, symptom, outbreak, sore, or lesion on my genitals, I've been abstinent for over two years, and had no sexual contact of any kind in that time, and I recently tested positive with a low 1.17 IgG test.

I've gotten some good feed back already, and most people say my chances of a false positive are pretty good.  but my question is, is it possible that I've had this disease for over two years with no symptoms, and just happen to have a low igg?

and secondly, i'd like to get retested (preferably) with the Western Blot, but I understand that it costs 160-200 dollars. i'm an extremely broke college student, and i'm trying to pay off a wedding, I literally don't have them money to spend.  so if I get retested at the same lab I went to first and they use the Herpeselect, what are the chances of getting an accurate reading, or will it just be the same possible false positive as before?

thank you for your help and feed back. I haven't slept in days and i'm completely consumed by this website and reading others stories.

No you do not become infected asexually.

A negative would be conclusive, you would be negative. Another low positive would not advance you beyond where you are now, that is low chance you have it and Westernblot required.

Maybe what I said was confusing.  I just wanted you to take hope that yours may very well be a false negative.

Good luck.  Let us know how it goes!

so you sad you think I may get another low positive reading.  what might that mean for me? if its the exact same number should I assume I have Hsv2 and merely have low IgG? or what if its higher? would that mean that I may have contracted the virus in the last 2 months through some asexual way? (i'm not sure how possible this is, but I've heard of people getting stuff from toilet seats and so on)

and about my intended, she has not been tested.  we've seen no reason for her to be tested considering she is a virgin, and has never had any sexual contact in her life.

thank you.

I think I saw that thread. the woman had like a 1.43 igg I think. that story gave me a lot of hope. in fact a lot of the stories and feedback have given me hope, but that's also what scares me.  I don't want to get my hopes up so high and then just be back where I started.

I don't quite understand what you mean by "Doesn't take too much looking around to see that things often work out that way you want your situation to"

and I know exactly how you feel about the site! every post makes me feel less alone, but someday i'd like to never see this site again!! lol

thank you.

Find a thread from sometime in the last few weeks written by a girl who lives in NYC.  I think she was 24 years old (if that helps you find the thread).

She tested low positive HSV2 - but higher than you, I think.  Hadn't had penetrative sex in 3 years.  No symptoms.  She was shocked.  Got re-tested and it came back negative.

Maybe you're in that boat also.  Doesn't take too much looking around to see that things often work out that way you want your situation to.

Best of luck.  And I'm with you about living on this site.  Once my 16 weeks are up, if I manage to get a negative IgG reading, I'm retiring from Medhelp forever!

The Herpeselect test for HSV2 is very accurate and the Westernblot is only a shade better.

The only issue I foresee is that given the situation of 2 years absent sexual contact and a low positive reading is the moderate chance you'll again see a low positive reading. Still you're no worse off and if it has fallen below 1 then this is strong evidence of being negative.

Has your intended tested?
