Could it be a false negative?

Hi,  I had oral sex with new partner about 2 months ago.  A week after that I had a yeast and bv infection.  It was treated and all was better.  I then stupidly had contact with his genitals (no sex) but there was skin contact about 3 weeks ago and two weeks later, started developing yeast infection and bv again. Doc put me on more antibiotics and tested me for all STDs including HSV-1 & 2 via blood work about a week ago (5/7/2015).   I've had cold sores/fever blisters in my toungue for about 7 days now.  I also noticed a bump in my vulva area around the time i got the cold sores.  That bump hasn't gotten bigger or irrupted but it's causing me alot of itching.  I am almost done with the antibiotics for yeast and bv infections but still have itching, burning, and tingling down there.  My doctor called me yesterday with results and said everything came back negative expect for cold sores.  She said it's a very common thing for everyone to have.  I understand cold sores is a strain of Herpes (HSV -1) so is it possible that my test for HSV-2 is a false negative.  Did I test too early?

I appreciate any input anyone has.  I've been stressing about this since I saw that bump down there and the blisters in my tounge don't want to go away.

If the positive number for hsv1 is high, is mostly like an old infection.

Yes, I was tested for both hsv1 and 2 (via blood Igg), but only came back positive for 1 (apparently the patient chart is not correct).   She seems sure that my blisters are herpes which is why she prescribed the Famvir.  Since my first encounter was in mid March, I might have tested too early for HSV2, but I plan to go back in a month or two.  However, since I am on antiviral meds, I am worried my results won't be accurate.  If I still have the blisters when I go back next week, I'll ask her to swab them for further testing.  Should I also ask about my numbers for hsv1?
Would that help me determine how long I've had it?

Since your concern is hsv1 genital then you need a blood test for this. The doc chart says negative for hsv1 and 2 but positive for cold sores. This makes no sense. Did they test you or not? Also have a swab of the toungue sores for herpes as well. Testing is the only way to confirm this.

So I went back to my doctor and confirmed I did have HSV-1 - she said there is no way of telling how long I've had it.  I've had blisters on my tongue for almost 3 weeks that don't seem to go away.  She went ahead and prescribed me Famvir 500 mg for the blisters on my tongue, but I keep thinking I just acquired HSV-1 and what I am going through is my first outbreak.  I've had blisters on my tongue before but they have never lasted this long.  A week or two after developing blisters on tongue, I've developed cold like symptoms, my body temp is higher than normal, I've a sore throat for a week, and I continue to have the burning and itching in my genital area.  She checked me again down there and said there were no blisters or signs of HSV2 but went ahead at swabed me for additional testing for yeast or other infections.  She suggested I test for HSV2 via blood in a few weeks if I wanted peace of mind.  But I just read that antiviral meds skew test results for a true HSV2 diagnosis.

I might add, I've been under extreme stress, anxiety, worry, and guilt because of what i've done and she thinks its my stress that's not allowing my blisters to heal and the itching down there could also be the stress.

Sorry for long post, but would like to hear your thoughts on this.
Thank you in advance

If a person is negative for hsv1 any lip sores would not be herpes.

Thank you for your response.  I might add he did put his genital in me for a  few seconds but made him get out quick.  He promises he doesn't have anything and I didn't see any sores at the time either.

Quick question, my doc logged my results on her patient portal where I am able to see.  It says negative for HSV-1 and negative for HSV-2, but when her office called me they said I was positive for "cold sores".   Could I have cold sores and not have HSV-1?  Sorry if this sounds dumb but I am so confused about all this.

Hi, your risk for contacting herpes from your affair, where he did not have any lip or genital sores at the time, would be close to zero. It takes more than simple contact but rubbing grinding to force the virus into a nerve. Testing at the 3 month post exposure mark would be conclusive and at the 8 week mark would be a good indicator. All of what your describing does appear fungal related.
