Could it be something other than herpes?

I went to the doctor b/c I had a sore, red, slightly swollen area on the inside of my clitoris. The nurse practitioner believed it looked like herpes, and I am genuinely hoping that is not the case. There's a small hole in the center of this sore area, its extremely painful to urinate, and there's discharge (but the amount of discharge doesn't look much different than what I usually see down there.) I took the swab test and am waiting for the results to be sure, but I've literally been a nervous wreck about this. Could this be anything besides herpes? I'm 20, and my current partner was my first. We split for a while, and I've been with one other person, but now I'm with my first partner and we've been back together for several months. I've never noticed anything on my partner that could be anything close to herpes, and he hasn't noticed anything that I know of. I just need to hear some other opinions. Please help.

I had a sore the next day after sex, and was on my period if that makes a difference. I thought it may have been just an irritated area from that, but...

Since you mention nothing about having any prior tests such as a STD panel or any other information on what your current status is, it is hard to answer. Basically wait for the swab test to come back, if its positive you have herpes. With any luck the nurse ordered for the swab to be typed so you know if its HSV 1 or 2 if its positive.

Once you know if its positive or negative you can go from there. Exactly how long since your last sexual encounter did you start to show these symptoms i.e any sores?
