Cracks in Scrotum? HSV-2

I posted a question here on Sept 25, 2009 about a scare I had with herpes.  Anyway, I had protected sex with a girl I am not very familiar with on Saturday night.  The next day when I took a shower I noticed a burning type sensation on the right side of my scrotum.  When I got out I took a closer look and it looked like 3 cracks on the right top of my scrotum.  A year ago, I remember seeing these same three cracks in the same place.  They are not out of place cracks on the skin but align perfectly to how the skin falls down to my testicles.  There is still a burning type sensation that started Sunday afternoon the day after the encounter till today although it has gone away some. I put some gold bond intensive healing cream on it for dry cracked skin but it seems to burn a little more when I do that.  Could this be herpes from a year ago and is an outbreak the day after I had protected sex or is this just a fungal infection or irritation from the condom?  I remember a year ago I checked these cracks almost everyday and nothing ever changed with them.  They were always there and when I do try to look at them close I have to strech the skin to see them which probably doesn't help.  But sometimes it does seem like there is moisture in these cracks but this is the first time I have noticed something about them in a year.  Thanks for your time.

I still seem to have this burning sensation and I have started to put antifungal cream on the area.  When I try and look closer I can see some very tiny spots that are grouped along one of these cracks.  They are not raised but they are in one of the cracks.  They are hard to see but when I looked at other areas of my scrotum there are other groups of these tiny spots just like it.  I also failed to mention I did have HPV around this area prob like 2 years ago.  I used the cream aldera and it really irritated the skin there.  It almost made the skin ooze and really inflamed.  Could this possibly be a lingering problem cause I used this cream?  This burning sensation is going on a week sunday if it continues then this can not be herpes correct?  How long does this buring sensation last if this is herpes?  Thanks.

I doubt that stretching the skin could cause it to burn, no.  But certainly a fungal infection of the scrotum could cause burning, no doubt.

No, I haven't tried any antifungal creams on the cracks.  It just seems like the cracks tend to flare up every now and then.  There are no raised bumps or anything like that.  I plan on getting tested for everything just to make sure.  Because the std clinic physician said to not even worry about it and that it was nothing it kinda put my mind to rest last year.  The burning sensation worries me a bit but I have been trying to look at them so I've been stretching the skin on my scrotum out pretty bad.  Could that irritate the skin to a point of burning?

Given your description, the cracks fit more with classic fungal infection than they do with herpes, but a personal diagnosis might be very helpful here.  Also, if you still have questions, and have had sex with more than one partner in your life, you could consider a herpes antibody test to help put your mind at rest.

Have you tried any antifungal creams on these cracks?
