Daily treatment for HSV 1

Could someone help me out?

I suffer from HSV1 orally.  I usually treat it with Valtrex, 2 gram in morning, 2 gram at night when I feel an outbreak coming on.  I get around one outbreak every 4-6 weeks.  A lot, I know.

I recently started seeing someone who is HSV1 negative and would like to have unprotected oral sex.  Given the fact that it sheds around 15% per week (in addition to my own frequent outbreaks) do you think it might be a good idea to treat it daily, at least for the next couple of months?  Or is that ovedkill?  My local doctor suggested 500 mg a day for three months to try.....how does that sound?

Thanks for the great info.

Does this mean that, on average, HSV1 sheds approx 55 days per year......using the 100 day calculation....not sure if I understand entirely......

no harm in treating it daily. start with the 500mg daily dose and if you are still having monthly recurrences, up it to 1gm/day.

actually it's 15% of days, not a week or a year.  That means out of every 100 days, 15 of them it's active on average.
